Are you taking medication that may make you photosensitive?

Many prescription medications can cause photosensitive reactions with ultraviolet light. Because the reaction of each photosensitive drug can vary with each individual, you should contact your doctor or pharmacist before tanning.

Most photosensitizing medications are labeled as such by your doctor or pharmacist. You may want to notify your pharmacist that you are tanning when filling any prescription. Professional tanning salons keep a list of potential photosensitive medications available for you as well.

Can people catch AIDS or herpes from tanning beds?

How does indoor tanning exposure compare to the natural sun?

Your skin produces a tan the same way it does when you tan indoors or outdoors. It is difficult to make a simple comparison of the sun with that of modern indoor tanning equipment. The sun’s strength is dependent on several factors as well. When you are outdoors in the sun you cannot control the amount of ultraviolet light you are exposed to. Indoor tanning is a very controlled environment in which you can regulate the amount of ultraviolet light you are exposed to. You can gradually increase your exposure time to achieve the tan you desire without burning.

What is the difference between UVB and UVA tanning rays?

UVA, more commonly referred to as the “bronzing” ray, is a longer wave and penetrates further into the skin than UVB. UVB, or the “burning” ray, is a tighter, more intense wave that releases its energy closer to the skin’s surface. Because of this, UVB is more likely to cause sunburn than UVA. Today’s tanning units use a carefully controlled mixture of both UVA and UVB to help prevent tanners from burning as quickly or easily from the natural sun.

Why should I use eye protection when I tan?

YES, absolutely! Eyelids are very thin and they have no natural protection against ultraviolet exposure. You risk serious injury to your eyes if you fail to wear your protective eyewear.  Ultraviolet light can penetrate deep into your eyes when you tan. Specifically, the short waves of UVB can penetrate the cornea, possibly causing painful corneal eye burns.  Some UVB and the longer waves of UVA can penetrate the lens or the retina, causing retinal burns or even cataracts and other long-term internal eye damage.

A towel won’t work, nor will sunglasses, bottle caps, contact lenses, or metal coins. The only way to do a good job of protecting your precious eyes is to wear specially designed and manufactured eyewear for indoor tanning. Long-term damage from eye exposure can cause cataracts, poor night vision, and even blindness.

BECAUSE SOME OF THESE CONDITIONS TAKE YEARS TO DEVELOP, YOU MAY NOT REALIZE THAT YOU ARE DAMAGING YOUR EYES WHEN YOU FAIL TO WEAR EYEWEAR.  Merely closing your eyelids while you tan is not enough!

Today’s indoor tanning lotions deliver nutrients to your skin that skin cells need to induce the tanning process.  It is literally like feeding your tan.  Also, these special ingredients, only found in indoor lotions, can help you attain a darker tan in fewer tanning visits, saving you money while taking care of your skin. To maintain the integrity of our tanning acrylics, we will only allow approved tanning lotions that are sold in professional tanning salons.  Maintaining our acrylics is a serious matter, as it determines the amount of UV light that penetrates to give you the results you desire.

How often do you change the bulbs in each bed?

We follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for bulb replacement so that you will achieve the best results from your sessions. We typically change our bulbs when they have reached 70% of their capacity so your tan doesn’t suffer from weaker UV rays.
